The mission of the Women's Hall of
Fame® is to publicly honor all the
nominees and recipients from the
ATHENA Awards and the Women in
Performing Arts, Entertainment and
Media for their achievements,
community support, and education to
insure the continued achievements of
women and young professionals in
Nevada. At this event we raise money
for Educational Scholarships for
Young Professionals and Grants
for women. The scholarships will
be given out on November 12, 2010 at
the 7th Annual ATHENA Awards.
All inductees are honor in the
Women's Hall of Fame® Alumni
Program. They will also be listed
in all chamber printed material,
Women In Power Magazine, Women's
Hall of Fame® web page. This year we
will be Inducting 6 Top
Professionals Women, 1 Young
professional, and 1 Women In Media.
These women are a great inspiration
to all women in Southern Nevada. |

Congratulations to our 2010 Pioneer
Award Recipient
Thalia Dondero
Thalia
Marie Sperry Dondero has lived in
Nevada since 1942. She was the first
woman elected to the Clark County
Commission in 1974 and in 1996, she
won election to the Board of
Regents.
Thalia Sperry was born in Greeley,
Colorado, and moved to Bakersfield,
California, with her family in 1930.
After finishing junior college she
began to work with the Basic
Magnesium Industries in Sacramento.
The company transferred her to the
Las Vegas area in 1942. She met
Harvey Dondero, a teacher at Las
Vegas High School and they were
married in 1946. The couple resided
in Carson City from 1946-1948 while
he worked for the U.S. Department of
Education, then they returned to Las
Vegas where Harvey resumed his
career as an educator and assistant
superintendent of the Clark County
School District.
